Among the Japanese breeds of dogs, the smallest is the Shiba Inu breed. Shiba Inu puppies, or simply Shibas, usually have dark snouts, upright ears, and they bear a great resemblance to foxes. The puppies may be of various colors but usually, they have a reddish coat. The Shiba Inu is frequently used by stuffed toy manufacturers as a model for their toys because of its general appeal. If you intend to buy one, you should be aware that in choosing, the cuteness is not your only consideration. Rather, you should choose based on intellect. Shiba Inu puppies deserve some research before you commit to adding this dog to your home.
You have to devote a great deal of your time because Shiba Inu puppies are inclined to be aggressive. Moreover, they are very territorial, which makes them good watchdogs. If you want yours to become healthy and happy members of the family, you must see to it that they get the proper training needed. You can get lots of information on Shiba Inu from breeders and the internet.
Also, they need to exercise daily and their coat should be well maintained. They are not meant as outside pets. Instead, they are touchy and want to be treated as family members. For these reasons, you should choose a puppy that would be easier for you to train. It is very important to learn all you can about Shiba Inu before you purchase a dog. Listed hereunder are the steps you must take when selecting a Shiba Inu puppy to breed.
1.) Choose between a male and a female puppy. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, but in general, the male puppies have more stable moods. They can, however, be really aggressive if they are not trained to socialize. The females can indeed show their soft sides at times, but more often than not, they are irritable. Decide whether to go for a male that is easier to train or a female that will have regular mood swings but produce babies.
2.) Check the American Kennel Club breed standard. Your puppy must comply with the standards if you intend to breed it. According to AKC, the only colors accepted for Shiba Inu puppies are “black with tan points and sesame” and “bright red-orange”. In addition, the colors should have a whitish undercoat referred to as “urajiro”. Furthermore, AKC standard states that Shibas should not have dewclaws on their hind legs. Otherwise, you need to have them removed through surgery. Your puppy must also have the required shots for rabies protection. Woolly or long fur is prohibited for your puppy.
3.) Select a highly-regarded breeder. Call him up and ask important questions like what he feeds the puppies with, if they have already been given the first set of shots, etc. Be absolutely certain that the breeder of the puppy is offering complete AKC registration with the breeding rights already included.
4.) See the puppies personally. Observe how they cooperate and network with each other. Go for the average puppy. You would not want to buy the biggest, meanest puppy of the litter, nor would you wish for a sickly and timid one.
5.) Buy your chosen one!
